Careers in Economics
So you are thinking about majoring in Economics but wondering what you would do after graduation. Well, Economics provides entry into a wide variety of fields from Business to Banking to Finance to Data Analysis. To be honest, it does help to have beginning accounting and marketing courses and good computer skills.
One good place to look for ideas about jobs in Economics is the National Association of Business Economics. They have a free careers booklet to download. Click the Careers button at http://www.nabe.com/. Also of interest is the consultants registry. This is a list of Economic consulting firms, http://www.nabe.com/publib/registry.htm. There are also job postings, but keep in mind that jobs advertised at the national level are not likely to be entry level jobs, but the job postings will still give you an idea of the type of jobs and careers available. http://www.nabe.com/publib/viewpw.htm.
Along the same lines is Jobs in Economics put out by the American Economic Association. Not really entry level jobs but useful to view. Go here http://www.nabe.com/publib/registry.htm and click the JOE button.
And you can see what the Federal Department of Labor says about Economics as a career. http://stats.bls.gov/oco/ocos055.htm
To find jobs you might actually
apply for, use one of the online job sites. The Department of Labor has an
excellent site at http://www.jobsearch.org/.
Use Economics as a search keyword. For federal government jobs only go to http://www.fedworld.gov/jobs/jobsearch.html.
And of course there is always Monster.Com at http://jobsearch.monster.com/.
Use Economics as the keyword.
